Bidmii, SalonScale, Moves, and TrojAI are part of the 12 startups participating in the latest cohort of Google’s accelerator program for Canadian startups.
Google unveiled the full list of its 2023 cohort for the Canadian accelerator on Thursday. The cohort includes representation from cities across the country, such as Toronto, Edmonton, Burlington, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Saint John.
Google launched the Startups Accelerator Canada program in Kitchener-Waterloo in 2020.
This cohort also varies in the types of technologies they offer, spanning from solutions for home decor and renovations, to salon supplies and reusable packaging.
Toronto-based proptech startup Bidmii offers an online marketplace for connecting homeowners and contractors for home renovation projects. In 2021, Bidmii raised $1 million in pre-seed funding led by Canadian entrepreneur, investor, and HGTV host Scott McGillivray.
Also based in Toronto is FinTech startup Moves, which offers an all-in-one-banking app for gig workers. Moves raised a $6.39 million CAD seed round last year. Moves said at that time that it had accumulated over 10,000 members using its platform, which were on track to earn a collective $56 million by the end of 2022. Moves was also noted on BetaKit’s Canadian tech company to watch in 2022.
SalonScale has developed a solution that weighs, charges, and tracks for the exact amount of hair dye colour used in hair salons. The Saskatoon-based company closed over $1 million in seed funding in 2019. According to the company, joining Google’s Startups Accelerator Canada program will help it accelerate its growth by taking its software architecture, data modelling, and scalability “to the next step.”
Saint John startup TrojAI develops solutions to protect AI platforms from adversarial attacks on training data and AI models. It raised a $3 million seed round in 2021 to expand its staffing. According to its LinkedIn page, TrojAI currently has a team of about 14 people.
Other members of this year’s cohort for Google’s Canadian accelerator have also completed several milestones in recent years.

Toronto-based payments tech startup Chimoney was selected as one of the seven Canadian startups for the SoCal Black Tech Express program earlier this year, joined by fellow Google Canada accelerator member Clavis Studio, which provides an online, 3D interior design platform.
Tablz, which provides a premium seating solution for restaurants, raised its first round of financing last year, closing $3.2 million CAD in pre-seed funding.
The previous cohort for Google’s Startups Accelerator program in Canada included participation from the likes of Helcim, Ukko Agro, Fyyne, and MintList.
Google launched the Startups Accelerator Canada program in Kitchener-Waterloo in 2020, representing the tech giant’s first Canadian-focused accelerator program. The company has since made four additional accelerator programs available for Canadian companies, which are the Cloud Accelerator, Women Founders, Black Founders, and the Climate Change Accelerator.
