CIX names top 20 early-stage startups, top 10 growth-stage startups of 2019

CIX

Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) has named the Top 20 Early and Top 10 Growth Canadian technology startups that have been accepted into its annual awards program.

“This year’s cohort of early and growth-stage companies is very impressive and we look forward to showcasing them.”

The selected companies represent a range of tech verticals, including AI, healthtech, Fintech, big data, aerospace, security, SaaS, and cleantech. The companies were chosen by a selection committee of technology industry experts and investors from across the country. CIX now has two curation programs: the Top 20 Early program, for companies with net revenue of less than $5 million or who have raised less than $10 million, and the Top 10 Growth program, for later-stage companies, which was introduced this year.

“Expanding to include a dedicated Growth-stage category allows us to identify and showcase more great Canadian companies and attract new stages of investors and sources of capital to CIX,” said Lauren Linton, executive director of CIX. “This year’s cohort of early and growth-stage companies is very impressive and we look forward to showcasing them at CIX.”

This year saw 433 profiles presented from all regions of Canada. Startups were chosen based on a number of factors, including product or service offering, depth of management, market opportunity, and business model.

The founder or CEO of each company will present at CIX 2019 on October 16 and 17 in Toronto, to share their company’s story and innovation to more than 700 investors and peers from the North American tech ecosystem. Alongside these showcases will be keynotes and sessions led by tech business leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs.

“Being selected a CIX Top 20 company in 2011 was a great honour and validation for Wave in our early days,“ said Kirk Simpson, CIX’s co-chair and co-founder, and CEO of Wave. “The recognition and exposure to prominent members of the tech ecosystem in Canada definitely helped put us on the map.”

This years’ selected companies join a list of CIX Top 20 alumni, which includes Aeryon Labs, Breather, Clearbanc, D-Wave, Frank & Oak, Freshbooks, League, Mindbridge AI, Top Hat, Vidyard, Wattpad, Wave, and Wealthsimple. See the full list of 2018 winners here.
