Over the past month, two Canadian tech companies have been acquired, including Setter and Grapevine6, while Toronto-based Converge acquired Workgroup Connections. Here’s the latest on Canada’s movers and shakers.
Toronto-based Setter acquired by Thumbtack
Toronto-based digital home management startup Setter was acquired by San Francisco-based Thumbtack. The price of the acquisition was undisclosed.
Setter was founded in 2016 and its platform allows homeowners to chat with home maintenance experts; homeowners can send photos of the issue they face, and receive a quote. The startup has raised $20 million USD to date, including a $10 million Series A round in 2018.
Thumbtack is a local services marketplace and will use the acquisition to introduce a personalized maintenance service for homeowners across the United States (US). Since 2008, the company has raised more than $400 million USD.
Toronto-based Grapevine6 acquired by Seismic
Toronto-based startup Grapevine6 has been acquired by Seismic. The purchase price of the acquisition was undisclosed.
Founded in 2013, Grapevine6 offers an engagement platform designed for the digital sales space. Grapevine6’s full team is joining join Seismic, including CEO Mike Orr, who stayed on to lead Seismic’s LiveSocial team.
Seismic provides a sales and marketing platform and the acquisition of Grapevine6 provides Seismic’s customer base of sales professionals access to relevant content sourced from 11,000 third-party publishers. The acquisition resulted in the creation of Seismic LiveSocial, an engagement tool for sales and client-facing teams. Using the AI engine built by Grapevine6, LiveSocial allows sales teams to share timely, reputable, and complaint content in their own voice, targeting buyers across multiple social platforms.
Converge acquires St. Louis and Denver-based Workgroup Connections
Toronto-based Converge Technology Solutions has acquired Workgroup Connections, a company that offers cloud, software development, and licensing services and solutions. The purchase price was $1.4 million CAD.
Converge, which offers a national platform of regionally focused hybrid information technology solution providers in Canada and the US, has made 14 acquisitions since October 2017.
Workgroup Connections, which is headquartered in both St. Louis, MO, and Denver, CO, assists its clients in maximizing IT resources and technologies through hybrid-cloud solutions, agile software development, and software licensing services. The company has been a partner with IBM since 1995, and also claims Amazon Web Services as a partner.
