Scalar named a member of cyber security contract for Canadian Army

Scalar Decisions Inc., an IT solutions company, announced Wednesday it is partaking in a cybersecurity engineering contract for the Canadian Army in conjunction with defence electronics and systems company General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada.

The contract is supporting the Land Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (Land C4ISR) system for the Army.

Scalar will be assisting General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada, which specializes in C4ISR (command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) and defence electronics, with this newly awarded cybersecurity contract. The contract focuses on developing protection for Land C4ISR data systems, and preventing theft and damage the information they contain.

“Protecting the communication and information systems of our Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Army is of the highest priority.”

The Toronto-based Scalar said it will be helping in the design, build, and operations of a Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC) for a critical part of Canada’s military operations, part of a project for Canada’s Department of National Defence.

“Protecting the communication and information systems of our Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Army is of the highest priority,” Theo Van Wyk, CTO of security at Scalar. “We are confident that we bring the right skillset and team to deliver the highest level of protection and response to these organizations.”

General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada announced Wednesday it has been awarded three contracts by the Government of Canada, focused on engineering and integration, software support, and the Scalar-supported, cybersecurity engineering (the combined contracts are valued at $621.5 million).

Scalar, founded in 2004, typically works with enterprises creating IT solutions that span security, cloud and infrastructure. A 2017 study conducted by Scalar found that the number of cyber-attacks on Canadian companies were on the rise.

Earlier this month, multi-brand tech solutions provider CDW announced an agreement to acquire Scalar.
