After announcing the shortlist of its Vision to Reality Awards celebrating innovation across the business landscape — which included startups like Wealthsimple, Sensibill, and Rubikloud — the final winners were chosen after a gala at the Arcadian Loft in Toronto.

The awards named three companies as innovators of the year in three categories meant to recognize startups (the disruptor), mid-market businesses (the builder), and large enterprises (the visionary).

Farmers Edge, an agtech company that uses various technologies to determine the unique characteristics of a singular plot of land in order to manage it individually, took the award for The Disruptor. Hydrogenics and Celestica took home the builder and the visionary awards respectively.

“Congratulations to all winners and finalists for their unwavering commitment to innovation and creativity and their relentless pursuit to transform their vision to reality,” said Tahir Ayub, managing partner of markets and industries at PwC Canada. “This year’s award applicants personify the potential Canada has to become a global innovation leader. PwC Canada is proud to celebrate companies who are reshaping the Canadian landscape by pushing boundaries and setting new benchmarks for excellence.”

The disruptor award recognized companies with under $25 million in revenue, while the builder recognized those with $25 to 500 million in revenue and the visionary award recognized those with at least $500 million in revenue.
