Vancouver-based Picniic, which allows families to keep track of their activities in a single platform, has raised a $2 million strategic investment from Norway-based telco Telenor.

Telenor, which currently has operations in 13 countries, will help Picniic scale into both US and international markets, according to the company.

“Picniic is already available to families in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and through Telenor’s strategic investment, Picniic is poised to expand its global reach,” said Michael Cole, co-founder and CEO of Picniic. “The investment will also allow Picniic to create even more resources and innovative services to make family life easier, including localized growth in ten additional markets.”

In early August, Picniic launched a virtual assistant to anticipate a family’s needs, and provide potential recommendations.

“When we built Picniic, our goal was to build a platform from the ground up that focused on families,” said Cole. “We want Picniic to act in a proactive manner and be one step ahead of families, connecting the dots behind the scenes to make everyday family life simpler and smoother.”
