Pandemic (Year Two) Action Plan

2021 calendar (January)

Happy New Year! How will this one be different from the last? What can we do to make it different?

This is also our first Black Swan episode of 2021, which means our pandemic-focused podcast has now spanned two calendar years. Which makes sense, because so has the pandemic.

“I don’t need you to have optimism, I just need you to have urgency.”
– Johnathan Nightingale

So what to do about pandemic year two? Once again we turn to Melissa and Johnathan Nightingale of Raw Signal Group, a business management consultancy, for advice.

Last year, we spoke with them (twice!) to track how managers within tech companies across Canada were handling the shifting demands thrust upon them by COVID-19.

In those prior episodes, especially early in the pandemic, the tone was pretty dour. We talked a lot about being lost in the fog of indecision. The difficulty of waiting for a horizon that gets no closer.

This time? Optimism. Or, at least, grim-throated conviction: that if we all were doom scrolling spectators to the events of 2020, this year, we can do our best to dictate our circumstances.

This episode is not a survival guide, it’s an action plan. On how to approach the year with a firm foot forward, and how to spot those pretending that nothing has changed.
