On November 22, Fuckup Nights is hosting its first edition in Kitchener-Waterloo at Shopify’s KW office.

Through candid talks from speakers, Fuckup Nights aims to break the stigma against failure, and amplify the message that failure is healthy and essential to learning and growing.

“Each chapter of Fuckup Nights has its own unique flavour,” said Marsha Druker, founder and director of Fuckup Nights Toronto. She noted that there was increasing interest from Kitchener-Waterloo for its own Fuckup Night. “Getting to know the region’s culture and audience is crucial for a successful launch. While we’re working with key partners across both cities and using learnings from running the community in Toronto, Fuckup Nights Kitchener-Waterloo will operate as a distinct chapter catered to the region.”

Speakers in Kitchener-Waterloo include Mike Kirkup, chief technology officer at Encircle and former Velocity director; Shopify culture and employee experience specialist Amandah Wood; and Jayson Gaignard, founder of Mastermind Talks and host of the Community Made podcast.

“I am sharing my experiences at the event because it provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn from the mistakes of others and resets expectations that we will make mistakes,” said Kirkup. “Be humble and learn from them.”

“When an entrepreneur commits to following their passion, the opportunity to have a positive impact on our economy is quite extraordinary,” said Will Buckley, Canada director for Xero, a partner on the event. “Unfortunately, only 50 percent of Canadian businesses survive beyond the first five years. At Xero, we’re excited to support Fuckup Nights in bringing the entrepreneurial community together across Kitchener-Waterloo to share, celebrate, and thrive.”

Tickets for the event are available here.
