Garrick Tiplady has been named managing director of Facebook and Instagram Canada.

Tiplady is taking over the role six months after former managing director Jordan Banks stepped down from his role, after acting as head for seven years. Tiplady, who was most recently CEO of Vemba, previously held senior roles at Rogers Communications, including SVP of customer experience and strategy and SVP of Chat’r Wireless.

“For years I have watched the evolution of Facebook’s business as an outsider and have been struck by the enormous potential of the platform to bring people and businesses closer together,” said Tiplady. “The calibre of talent on the Facebook Canada team is second to none and I look forward to joining them.”

Tiplady will be part of Facebook’s Global Marketing Solutions team, and will report directly to Nada Stirratt, VP of global marketing solutions of North America.

“Canada plays such an important role in Facebook’s global business and I’m thrilled that our search for a seasoned leader to serve as Managing Director has resulted in Garrick’s hire,” said Nada Stirratt, VP Global Marketing Solutions of North America at Facebook. “Garrick brings the right mix of leadership experience and a customer-centric approach to the role. I look forward to working closely with Garrick as we put our exciting 2018 plans into motion in Canada.”

Facebook Canada is headquartered in Toronto with offices in Montreal, Vancouver, and Ottawa.
