E-commerce startup Mobify to be acquired by Salesforce

E-commerce software startup Mobify has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by customer relationship management software company Salesforce. The purchase price of the deal was not disclosed.

Mobify CEO and co-founder Igor Faletski called the deal a “natural extension” of a multi-year partnership between the two companies.

Mobify’s solution is aimed to help brands customize their commerce experiences and deliver shopping experiences across any channel. According to a blog post from Mobify last week, the Vancouver-based startup will provide its storefront solution to Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Mobify declined to disclose to BetaKit details on what will happen to the startup’s team and operations as a result of the deal, as well as when it is expected to close.

Founded in 2007, Mobify has created a platform for headless commerce, an approach that separates an e-commerce platform’s frontend design from the backend infrastructure. Headless commerce is used to give full-stack e-commerce solutions more flexibility when dealing with a complex set of business touchpoints.

Mobify’s platform works on top of its clients’ existing systems with APIs, and offers built-in infrastructure to host, secure, integrate, and scale a storefront.

In August 2019, Mobify launched its service, which integrates with Salesforce Commerce Cloud, on the Salesforce AppExchange, which is Salesforce’s marketplace of apps and solutions. In July, Mobify launched its Headless Commerce Accelerated program, aimed to allow customers using Salesforce Commerce Cloud to go headless using Salesforce’s B2C Commerce APIs.

Mobify was founded by Faletski and John Boxall, then-students at Simon Fraser University. Since being founded, Mobify has acquired several e-commerce companies, including Pathful, which allows retailers to understand how visitors interact with their content, and Dónde, which provides relevant offers to consumers based on their location.

Some of Mobify’s customers include brands like Under Armour and Shiseido, and some of the startup’s investors include Acton Capital, BDC Capital, Plaza Ventures, and Vistara Capital Partners. Mobify’s last financing round was $15 million in growth capital financing, raised in 2017.
