Win a ticket to #GROWconf and one-on-one time with Shopify CPO Harley Finkelstein

Taking place this August in beautiful Whistler, BC, GROW Conference is fast approaching. Featuring two packed days of breakout sessions and keynote speakers, GROW annually brings together some of the biggest names in Canadian tech. One such name is Harley Finkelstein, Shopify’s Chief Platform Officer.

“GROW brings together a collective of startup founders, funders, and everyone in between,” Finkelstein told BetaKit. “It’s an important event as it not only acts as a catalyst for important introductions, but it also provokes attendees to think bigger about their own endeavours.”

“GROW brings together a collective of startup founders, funders, and everyone in between.”

Finkelstein will be taking the GROW stage on Thursday in conversation with Felicis Ventures’ Aydin Senkut to talk about Shopify’s journey from startup to IPO. Finkelstein told us that Senkut “was one of our earliest and most important investors, and it was at GROW where he first heard about Shopify 6 years back.”

Of course, Finkelstein’s fireside chat won’t be solely rooted in the past. Following an amazing first quarter as a public company, Finkelstein thoughts are firmly planted in Shopify’s future.

“Ultimately, we want to work and partner with companies that are looking to change the traditional retail model,” he said. “We want to talk to companies that are excited about taking commerce, which is one of the oldest industries, and changing it for the better.”

It sounds as though the stage is set for an amazing conversation. Wouldn’t it be great if you could make a similar connection in Whistler that could change your business? Thanks to our friends at GROW, you just may get the chance.

BetaKit is giving away one free ticket to GROW, plus one-on-one time with Harley Finkelstein. To win, leave a comment on this post explaining how attending the conference will help your company grow! We’ll randomly select one commenter as the winner Friday, August 7th.

Note: BetaKit is only providing a GROW ticket and some one-on-one time with Harley. It’s your responsibility to get to Whistler for the conference!

I have been well aware of the Grow conference for the past few years. As President of Van iDev we have tried to support their hackathon by getting the word out. While at the hackathon last year I recognized the amount of great speakers and attendees who I would love to rub shoulders with and tell them move about my company (Two Tall Totems) and how we can help them develop world leading apps.

Working on a few business ideas, so this is a great opportunity to accelerate all aspects of planning to launch.

The ability to learn from top entrepreneurs that have solved many problems and succeeded in building great companies. Would love to have the chance to network with the best in the business and grow our Vancouver-based startup to the next level.

They do say that it’s best to surround yourself with smarter people! Having the chance to be surrounded by thought leaders and masters of innovation at GROW would be a fantastic. This opportunity would allow me absorb new ideas and also add to ideas through the networking I’d have the chance to do. Overall, this experience would allow me to bring innovative seeds back to the other side of Canada in order to GROW a great Data Science Team focused on Big Math! Hope I get the chance to join! Sonia

Building a business is really hard, but having an opportunity to network with really smart people, who are either in the struggle, or have been through the struggle is very refreshing. It’s motivating. Plus, you learn a lot, so that’s pretty cool too.

Attending the conference would be a great opportunity to network with people and companies which will in turn help my company grow as we hopefully develop those relationships.

  7. LocalSolo can’t think of a better way to spend a few days than to attend the Grow conference. As a local Vancouver startup with some great traction, soaking up all that wisdom from the speakers and attendees would really help us move that needle in the right direction! Sitting down with Harley would be the cherry on top. Much respect for everything Shopify has been able to achieve.

I spend every day of my life trying to learn from the top growth folks in our industry and it’s no secret that GrowConf would be a huge win to attend. I’ve never been to BC before so I’d say that’s a nice little cherry on top. Having worked in the B2B SaaS space for sometime now, I’m moving my focus to High-Growth Consumer/Mobile/Enterprise Software and looking to crush the competition by involving myself in product development while bringing my marketing/growth experience to the table. Don’t randomly select a winner, select me! 🙂

Being able to connect with both founders and funders would mean I can take my current strategy (helping high-end service businesses attract better quality and qualified customers at scale) and apply it to a group of growth-focused companies from around the world. Talking to Harley would be that cherry on top to learn more about customer service and customer education at scale.

It will enable me to network in the community. This will help me grow my business as it is focused on helping my clients develop their models and strategy. It will also help me better understand how I can develop my growth strategy for other products I am developing.

Innovate or Die – I think a smart man once said ;). Short answer we do not want to die.

As a young entrepreneur, I like to inspire and be inspired. I’ve been to a few conferences this year such as Traction and it’s always been a pleasure to be able to meet serial and accomplished entrepreneurs. Working out of Highline has been an amazing opportunity here in Vancouver, I’ve been able to meet so many growing start-ups, it would be amazing to do the same at Grow.

There is nothing tougher than allocating budget to travel as a young agency. There are so many events worthy of attendance, but one can only stretch the dollar so much. I’d love to go, network, grow my business and enjoy it without worry about covering the costs associated! Plus, Doug from BetaKit has great hair.

A growth hacker looking to add knowledge to my arsenal and help companies grow at a faster rate! I’ve figured out how to grow a few social media accounts with proven tactics across multiple industries. I hope the GROW conference can increase my knowledge so i can teach others!

As a close colleague often mentions, innovation is key. Attending grow is a great way to learn about others perspectives about innovation and see how those perspectives can help our company grow.

I’m a growth hacker and I’m launching an incredible new fitness app next month. I love expanding my knowledge about everything related to startups, launch strategies and how technology can change the world for the better.

I find that the best way I learn is through conversations with inspired creative changemakers at conferences like GROW! I have been to GROW in previous years and I always came away super inspired by all the smart people I met from Silicon Valley and BC.

Building a startup, as I have been for the past year and a half, is no easy task. Meeting Harley to discuss our startup, listen to his advice, talk about how we can best integrate Shopify into our current setup, and discuss what the future holds, would be an absolute gift. Maybe even see if he thinks with what we have accomplished (after a demo of our product) he’d be comfortable introducing us to Ayden. Who knows!!

Last yr, we crashed the event. Not because we are cheap but because every single dollar goes into our company. We’re also in the process of changing retail marketing, and while I’ve been to SF, Las Vegas, NYC, Boston, Austin all for events in the past 12 months, this years GrowConf has the best lineup of attendees anywhere! I’d love to be there, to meet Harvey, network, make connections and make it the event that takes our company to the next level.

      1. Avatarsays: Paul T

That is awesome news! Thanks Douglas! I am really looking forward to meeting you, and the other attendees! They reached out and we have it taken care of. Now I don’t have to hide in the Mallard lounge! 😀 See you next week and thanks again.

I’ve recently taken on the role of a commercial real estate adviser for Colliers International in Victoria, BC, and it hasn’t taken me long to realize there’s a lack of understanding from landlords and real estate agents in this city in regards to tech companies. It is my goal to get out into the tech community, interview influencers and leaders of tech companies, and try to truly understand their needs, not only on a real estate level, but on a business level as a whole.

If I’m able to attend GROW, I’d try to interview as many tech companies as possible to understand the reasoning behind their most recent real estate decision, and how they felt about the process. This is intended to be an information gathering session in which I hope to gain insight into the decision making process of tech leaders.

    BetaKit, please choose me!

  20. Tech Blogger with an influence. I’ve attended Grow last year and it was amazing! I’ve gotten tons of new visitors by covering GROW last year, so obviously i want to go again and help GROW and my site, GROW!
