Several Canadian startups have made announcements and launched new features to make strides in AI. Here’s the latest on Canada’s movers and shakers.

Kanetix partners with Integrate.AI to implement machine learning capabilities

Insurance comparison website Kanetix, in partnership with Integrate.ai, has piloted an AI and machine learning solution to enhance customer experience and improve marketing ROI. Kanetix will now scale this technology across the organization and bring it to its insurance partners.

“Implementing cutting-edge AI and machine learning technology to enhance innovation and drive revenue growth at Kanetix Ltd was the ultimate business goal, but it would be meaningless without improving the customer experience too,” said Andrew Lo, CEO and President of Kanetix. “We’re now able to anticipate customer expectations and offer them the best shopping experience that aligns with their lifestyle. We’re looking forward to expanding the use of Integrate.ai’s platform and are keen on sharing our learnings with our peers to help drive the industry forward.”

The initial pilot started in September 2017, and targeted consumers on the Kanetix.ca car insurance comparison website that were on the fence about purchasing auto insurance. Based on the website’s pool of data, Integrate.ai configured its platform to predict which customers were likely to convert and their preferred method of transacting, allowing Kanetix.ca to provide a tailored buying experience.

Over the course of the pilot period, the efficacy of the platform’s predictions improved by approximately 38 percent, and Kanetix.ca experienced a conversion increase in auto insurance transactions of 13 percent. Kanetix.ca is now running 100 per cent of its Ontario auto insurance quotes through Integrate.ai’s platform.

“We’re thrilled to be driving tangible financial impact at Kanetix. Their commitment to improving their organization through innovation has made Kanetix Ltd. an ideal early partner. We look forward to continuing to work together and growing our partnership,” said Steve Irvine, founder and CEO of Integrate.ai.

Ross Intellgience partners with Vector Institute

Ross Intelligence, which provides an AI-powered platform for lawyers to search through case law and find details relevant to new cases, has partnered with the Vector Institute.

The company plans to use the partnership to extend its research. “Legal question-answering is the ideal test bed for understanding natural human language, and this partnership with Vector will help us to significantly advance developments at Ross Intelligence,” said Andrew Arruda, CEO and co-founder of Ross Intelligence. “I am excited for our customers and partners to benefit from the most cutting-edge research that will flow from the Vector Institute into our current and future products.”

In mid-February, the Vector Institute also announced that Integrate.AI would be a new partner for the Institute. When the AI hub was founded last year, both government and private sector partners like Shopify, Google, and CIBC dedicated approximately $130 million to establishing the Institute, which will support research and commercialization of AI technologies and create new grads with specialty in AI.

“Truly innovative companies and leaders such as Ross Intelligence and its founders will play a crucial role in building the future of AI and accelerating Canada’s blossoming AI ecosystem,” said Darin Graham, Vector’s VP of industry innovation. “As a bronze sponsor, Ross and Vector will collaborate to deepen Canada’s pool of world-class talent in machine learning and deep learning, develop transformative new technologies, and lead Canada and the world into this new era of innovation.”
