Square acquires Toronto-based Kili Technology

Square, the popular mobile commerce platform developed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, has been live in Canada since October 2012. The company recently opened a permanent address in Kitchener that employs 10 engineers, and is aiming to hire an additional twenty by the end of the year.

Announced today, Square has continued its growth in the Canadian market by acquiring Toronto-based Kili Technology, a company that has developed silicon, electronics, and software tech that simplifies and optimizes the payment process. Kili was founded in 2011 and the company and its employees will join Square and build out its Toronto office.

Square noted that “Our job is to continue to make the smartest and sexiest payments hardware on the planet accessible to them.”

The details of the transaction were not confirmed.
