Rise People launches advisor engagement platform for Sun Life clients

Rise People

Vancouver-based Rise People, a startup that provides human resources and payroll solutions to employers, has launched a new insurance advisor engagement platform aimed to offer group life and health benefits.

“This new tool will ultimately help advisors provide clients with access to the benefits they need.”

The new platform gives insurance advisors tools designed to streamline backend processes while delivering a paperless frontend experience. The platform is currently available across Canada to advisors that serve clients of Sun Life’s group benefits program. Rise People plans to expand the platform to include other insurance carriers in the coming months.

Rise People and Sun Life’s relationship dates back to 2018, when the companies began a strategic relationship, which included a $15 million equity investment in the startup. In early 2019, Rise People launched its benefits administration solution, developed in collaboration with Sun Life.

The new solution is aimed to help advisors sell group life, health benefits, and individual insurance. The platform allows advisors to offer digital enrollment, access to an online insurance marketplace, ongoing benefits administration, and an advisor management solution to store client data and generate reports.

“This platform is a gateway to provide our advisors with a seamless digital experience to manage their clients and their benefits plans,” said Sophie Ouellet, vice president of business development and group benefits at Sun Life. “We continue to look for innovative ways to digitize and modernize benefits in Canada. This new tool will ultimately help advisors provide clients with access to the benefits they need.”

Founded in 2011, Rise People offers what it calls a “people management platform” that offers human resources, benefits, and payroll solutions. The startup is headquartered in Vancouver, and has offices in Montreal and Toronto.

In April, Rise People announced it would provide its HR and payroll solutions free of charge to Canadian businesses for the rest of the year to help mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, the startup acquired San Francisco-based Hazel, which provides virtual coaching to employees through Slack.
