When Whitney Wolfe Herd left Tinder in 2014, after helping to co-found the dating app, she didn’t know the journey she would go on that would end in her creating a second dating app focused on female-empowerment.
At Elevate Techfest in September, Wolfe Herd, founder and CEO of Bumble, spoke to the festival’s co-founder, Razor Suleman about the difficult journey that brought her from depression to creating a space for women to feel empowered.

She spoke about one low moment that “transcended the future” for her and inspired her to create Bumble. “There had been an article that came out that was very unfair and it was devastating to me,” Wolfe Herd explained. “The internet just attacked me…it started engulfing me.” From that moment Wolfe Herd became inspired to do something about the negativity on the internet.
“You have to follow your values, why would you go into business if you’re not going to build a business to progress society or do something different or better or make the world a better place in some way, shape or form,” she asked.
