InvestHER Summit, a virtual event that aims to connect investors with Canadian female business owners, has opened applications for PitchHER, the event’s startup pitch competition for women entrepreneurs.

InvestHER is encouraging Black, LGBTQ+, newcomer, differently-abled, and racialized entrepreneurs to apply.

Through the pitch competition, startups have the opportunity to present their business in front of experts and investors for a chance to win $10,000. The competition will be hosted by Microsoft for Startups and Dream Legacy Foundation. PitchHER is seeking small businesses or startups with at least a $1,000 per month run rate.

This is the first-ever InvestHER event and was organized by Adeela Carter and Amoye Henry, both co-founders of Pitch Better, which aims to use market research and strategic insights to enable growth in diverse women-founded businesses.

In addition to a pitch competition, the summit will feature speakers such as Yvonne Bajela, founding member and principal of Impact X Ventures, Maya Horgan Famodu, partner and founder of Ingressive Capital, and entrepreneur Arian Simone. Attendees can also participate in InvestHER’s virtual networking lounge and shop at the summit’s virtual marketplace.

Using data collected in a national research project conducted across Canada, Pitch Better says it has identified some of the key tools needed to help female entrepreneurs “Pitch Better” and increase their opportunities to secure capital for their businesses.

By connecting Black female entrepreneurs with seasoned professionals via workshops, talks and coaching sessions, Pitch Better aims to help women-led small businesses in Canada find a path to growth.

InvestHER is encouraging Black, LGBTQ+, newcomer, differently-abled, and racialized entrepreneurs to apply to PitchHER. Applications close on September 23. The InvestHER summit will take place on September 26.
