Mobile parking payments app HonkMobile expands to US

Honk

Toronto-based HonkMobile, a provider of on-demand mobile payments for parking, has announced an expansion across the United States in partnership with international parking operator Secure Parking USA.

“This expansion and partnership reinforces Honk as the premier scalable mobile solution for parking operators.”

Honk’s app is now live in more than nine cities including Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, and Milwaukee. The company noted that in each of these cities its app is now available to book parking in real-time or make advance reservations at any location with Secure Parking USA.

“Expansion into international markets has long been a goal and given our strong financial growth and continued innovation and agility, we’re well positioned to grow quickly across the United States,” said Honk founder and CEO, Michael Back. “As the first Canadian mobile parking payments solution to expand into the US, this international expansion and partnership reinforces Honk as the premier scalable mobile solution for parking operators.”

Founded in 2013, Honk’s app allows users to search, pay for, and top-up parking directly from their mobile device or computer. The app passes paid license plate numbers to parking enforcement as proof of payment, to replace paper receipts. Honk notifies users 15 minutes before their parking session expires with the option to extend remotely.

“We chose to partner with Honk because they are the leader in the cloud-based parking payment solutions in North America,” said Ryan Hawken, managing partner of Secure Parking USA. “Their technology enables us to continuously modernize the parking experience to meet the needs of our customers across the country, ensuring we provide the highest level of customer service at every parking location.”

In 2015, Honk raised $3 million in seed stage funding in a round led by Impression Ventures. The company said it saw a 107 percent increase in user growth year-over-year as of 2018. Honk said it is actively engaging more US parking partners to expand further into the American market.
