Homejoy chooses downtown Toronto as its first international market for professional house cleaning

Homejoy, a simple startup with a very clean goal, has chosen Toronto as its first international expansion market.

The California-based startup is barely more than a year old, but has expanded from a single district to over 20 in a short time, offering home cleaning starting at $20 an hour.

The company works with “partner cleaners,” companies in the area that offer professional cleaning services, in specific neighbourhoods. Like Kutoto’s Express Cleaning, which offers similar functionality through an iPhone app, Homejoy encourages users to reuse its services with a twice-monthly or monthly subscription.

Homejoy is a Y Combinator startup, and has so far raised $1.7 million to fund its expeditious expansion. The company chose downtown Toronto as its first international expansion market because “it is a tech hotbed in Canada, home to over 600 startups and filled with young professionals.”
