Google has revealed the 12 startups joining the third cohort of Startups Accelerator Canada.

This group comprises four startups from Toronto, three based in Calgary, two Vancouver companies, and one startup each representing Oshawa, Montréal, and Aurora.

Participants include the likes of Calgary-based FinTech firm Helcim, which recently raised $16 million for its Series A round; agtech startup Ukko Agro, which closed a $5.1 million seed round last year; Toronto-based beauty tech company Fyyne and Vancouver online car marketplace MintList, which raised $2.76 million in January.

Startups Accelerator Canada was first launched in Kitchener-Waterloo in 2020, marking Google’s first Canadian-focused accelerator program. In that year, Google moved the accelerator online amid the pandemic. Its initial aim was to host two cohorts for its inaugural year, but ended up only completing one.

Since then, Google has launched, or made available, five additional accelerator programs in Canada, including the Cloud Accelerator, Women Founders Accelerator, Black Founders Accelerator, and Climate Change Accelerator.

Led by Google’s head of startup developer ecosystem Ashley Francisco and startup ecosystem lead Iran Karimian, the third edition of Startups Accelerator Canada is set to begin in the week of July 25th. Applications for this cohort were initially put out in May.

Through the 10-week program, the selected startups are expected to receive technical mentorship, as well as access to Google experts and technology to help them enhance their strategies and systems. Google said that the program offers mentorship from over 20 Google teams, including Google Android, Cloud, Machine Learning, and Web.

The tech giant claims that over 50 Canadian startups have graduated from its programs. Last year’s cohort was also made up of 12 companies, consisting of AccessNow, AVA, Homewise, Neurescence, and Phelix AI.
