Former Scotiabank managing director leaves to join Receptiviti

Toronto-based Receptiviti, a corporate culture analytics company, has announced that Mike Friedman is the company’s new chief analytics officer and head of product.

Previously, Friedman was the managing director, data science and analytics at Scotiabank, where he oversaw the deployment of analytics and AI systems that improved customer focus and knowledge.

“Having worked in a large financial institution…I was consistently surprised that banks would attempt to cut costs by focusing on minute changes rather than optimizing their biggest asset—their workforce,” Friedman said. “I was fascinated to understand how some projects were a blockbuster success and others never seemed to take off, and team chemistry always seemed to be at the heart of it.”

Receptiviti aims to instill healthy workplace culture in companies by analyzing the psychological state of their workers.

Friedman mentioned that Receptiviti surprised him in regards to their ability to combine linguistics and psychology with bank level security.

For the last 20 years, Friedman has focused on managing data science and product teams. He was responsible for building Scotiabank’s Capital Markets’ Data Science and Analytics group, growing the team to cover the entire wholesale bank. Friedman is a Canadian chartered accountant, a certified public accountant in the US, and a lecturer at Queen’s University where he received his master’s in management analytics.

Receptiviti aims to instill healthy workplace culture in companies by analyzing the psychological state of their workers. The company’s platform uses corporate communication systems such as Slack, Office 365, and Skype to provide information on workplace stress and engagement. In November, Alain Chesnais, co-founder of Trendspottr, joined the Receptiviti as their chief technology officer.

“Mike’s theoretical and practical knowledge of artificial intelligence, and his experience designing and building highly complex analytics systems that simplify business problem solving were incredibly appealing, and I knew early on that we wanted to bring him onboard.” said Receptiviti co-founder and CEO Jonathan Kreindler.
