#DisruptMining opens applications for $1 million pitch competition

#DisruptMining event March in Toronto

Goldcorp has announced that applications are open for the third annual #DisruptMining innovation challenge.

On Sunday, March 3, 2019, #DisruptMining will see startups pitch for a chance to negotiate a $1 million investment from Goldcorp. Net proceeds from the #DisruptMining finale event will support innovation-focused scholarships and community-building initiatives.

The competition is looking for startups working in categories like mining, sustainability, and geology.

“The mining industry today is collaborating and investing in technology and innovation like never before. We have digitized, automated and applied new technologies to various aspects of the mining life cycle, but our industry needs to accelerate the cycle of innovation even more to stay competitive, deliver greater value to shareholders and be best prepared for our future,” said Todd White, executive vice president and COO at Goldcorp.

Last year, Acoustic Zoom took the top prize for its tech, which maps geological formations deep within the earth for mineral exploration. The company ultimately negotiated a $1.3 million CAD contract with Goldcorp.

“DisruptMining was truly a catalyst for our business and put us on the world stage,” said Prof. Jacques Guigné, CEO of Acoustic Zoom. “We now have multiple international contracts with major mining companies and have accelerated the development of our technology with further innovations, in addition to building our ability to service with a growing equipment portfolio.”

Applications are due November 5 and can be submitted here.
