AltFi Summit coming to Toronto this December

The AltFi FinTech Summit is coming to Toronto on December 5, 2018.

Launched in 2013, the Summit connects alternative finance platforms, FinTechs, and institutional investors to discuss what’s next for the sector. AltFi has already hosted events in Europe and the US, though this is the first time the event has come to Canada. The Summit will be hosted at the MaRS Discovery District, and sponsored by Borrowell and PwC Canada.

“We’re always on the lookout for the next FinTech hotspot for our Summit series, and Toronto fits the bill,” said David Stevenson, executive director of AltFi. “A mixture of exciting local firms and progressive regulatory thinking has the market poised to take off. We’re excited to bring some of Europe’s biggest disruptors with us to Canada to discuss the future of FinTech.”

Past speakers include Funding Circle CEO Samir Desai, Monzo CEO Tom Blomfield, and Starling Bank CEO Anne Boden. Funding Circle is on tap to speak again at the Toronto AltFi, which is well-timed given the company’s recently-announced plans to IPO.

This isn’t the first time an international conference has choosen Canada; in early May, BetaKit broke the news that Collision would relocate to Toronto in 2019.

“AltFi is one of the world’s leading FinTech conferences,” said Andrew Graham, co-founder and CEO of Borrowell. “I’m pleased to welcome the AltFi team, and the global speakers and investors this event will bring, to Toronto to engage with our fast-growing FinTech industry.”
