Bizzabo, a New York-based events technology company, has acquired Klik of Montréal, which operates in the same industry, for $13.5 million in a mix of cash and stock.

Klik’s employees will be joining the company and will be based out of Bizabo’s newly opened office in Montréal. There are plans to hire for roles in engineering, operations, and HR.

Klik is Bizzabo’s fourth acquisition in seven months, an addition to its previous acquisitions of x.ai, Whalebone, and TeeVid.

Launched in 2016 with a mission to elevate live events, Klik’s bluetooth-powered software is paired with interactive wearable devices that allows users to exchange each other’s social profile information with the bump of a wrist or a click of a button.

Klik’s wearables also act as a communications device that enable customized recommendations on content, sessions, networking opportunities, sponsors to visit and more. Klik has powered major events for brands like Airbnb, MIT, and C2 Montréal.

“In 2020, the live events industry experienced a shock like nothing seen before,” said Klik. “Regardless, we were ready to serve the industry once events became a part of our reality again. As the world began to open up, we were able to get back out in the field doing what we’re passionate about.”

Its offerings are similar to the products provided by Bizzabo, which was launched in 2011 by founders Boaz Katz, Alon Alroy, and Eran Ben-Shushan. Bizzabo’s data-based platform, Events Operating System (OS), allows organizers to manage events and engage audiences while keeping attendee data private.

The acquisition will see the integration of Klik’s wearables technology with Bizzabo’s Event Experience OS. Bizzabo will also leverage Klik’s technology with the Event Serendipity Engine, which curates recommendations for peers, content, sessions, and sponsors to attendees. The Event Serendipity Engine is powered by technology from x.ai, the AI-driven scheduling and matchmaking company Bizzabo acquired in June.

Bizzabo currently has more than 300 employees in its New York, Tel-Aviv, Kyiv, and London offices, as well as more than 15 remote locations around the world. The acquisition follows its $138 million Series E funding round led by New York-based Insight Partners.
