Volta announces four new companies joining Residency program

Halifax-based ​Volta has announced that ​​four​ ​new companies​ have joined its ​Residency​ ​program.​

The ​Residents​ will ​​have​ ​access​ ​to​ ​more​ ​than​ ​$50,000​ ​in​ ​programming​ ​and​ ​resources, including​ ​mentorship,​ ​access​ ​to​ ​in-house​ ​experts,​ ​a​ ​travel​ ​program,​ ​founder-focused​ ​events, discounts​ ​and​ ​credits,​ ​and​ ​affordable​ ​office​ ​space​ ​in​ ​the​ ​heart​ ​of​ ​Halifax. ​The​ ​new​ ​companies​ ​will be working from the space at ​Volta Labs​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Maritime​ ​Centre.

“At​ ​Volta,​ ​we​ ​are​ ​excited​ ​about​ ​the​ ​variety​ ​of​ ​technology​ ​driven​ ​startups​ ​that​ ​are​ ​being established​ ​in​ ​Atlantic​ ​Canada,”​ ​said​ ​Jesse​ ​Rodgers,​ ​CEO​ ​of​ ​Volta​ ​Labs.​ ​“This​ ​is​ ​what’s​ ​helping build​ ​Halifax’s​ ​Innovation​ ​District​ ​–​ ​the​ ​diverse​ ​ideas​ ​that​ ​are​ ​being​ ​turned​ ​into​ ​companies​ ​and products​ ​right​ ​here.”

The four companies include: 

  • ADDtext: founder​ ​and​ ​CEO​ ​of ADDtext, Keith​ ​Gelhorn​, ​has​ worked to help ​ young​ ​people​ ​with​ ​ADHD,​ ​autism,​ ​learning disabilities,​ ​and​ ​co-occurring​ ​mental​ ​health​ ​challenges with ​his​ ​company, ADDvocacy​ ​ADHD​,​ ​Life​ ​Skills​ ​Coaching. Through this app, he hopes to reach young people on a larger scale as they transition to ​high​ ​school,​ ​career​ ​exploration,​ ​and entrepreneurship.
  • Axem​ ​Neurotechnology​​: founded by two PhD Neuroscience students from Dalhousie University, Axem ​is​ ​developing​ ​wearable​ ​technology​ ​for ​athletes​ ​to​ ​measure their​ ​brain​ ​activity​ and ​​improve​ ​their​ ​mental​ ​training.​
  • Dragon​ ​Veterinary​​: A voice-recognition software​ made​ ​by​ ​vets​ ​for​ ​vets, this software has​ ​the​ ​largest​ ​veterinary-specific​ ​vocabulary​ ​in​ ​the​ ​market, according to the company.​
  • Proof:​​ built on cloud-based​ ​software​, its CRM and ERO tools allow governments​ to ​deliver​ ​and track​ ​its ​spending.

​Volta​ ​Labs​ ​plans on moving​ ​into​ ​new​ ​offices​ ​on​ ​the​ ​lobby,​ ​mezzanine​, ​and​ ​second floors​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Maritime​ ​Centre,​ in​ ​the​ ​spring​ ​of​ ​2018. More​ ​information​ ​about​ ​the residency​ ​is available here. ​
