Toronto-based mobile sports news provider theScore announced some new user milestones today, as the company closed its Fiscal Q1 2015. As of December, theScore is now averaging 10.2 million monthly active users on its mobile platform. The number is an impressive 112% year-over-year jump, and divided evenly between the company’s mobile app and the mobile web: theScore is seeing 4.8 million monthly active users via its mobile app, and 5.4 million via the mobile web. While the former number is a modest 15% jump from Q1 2014, theScore’s mobile web usage represents an astonishing 776% increase year-over-year.

When asked by BetaKit for the reason behind theScore’s explosive mobile web growth, CEO John Levy indicated that Q1 was the second full quarter in which the company had both a dedicated social media team and responsive mobile website in place. “This has equipped us to better amplify our mobile-first news content via the mobile web, reaching millions of new fans all over the world,” Levy said.

theScore also saw a revenue bump over the quarter, generating $3.05 million with a 49% increase in advertising revenue year-over-year.

It’s important to note that these numbers do not include those of fantasy sports game Swoopt, which theScore acquired in December from ApptheGame. When fully integrated, the acquisition should only serve to further accelerate user activity and revenue gains.

“The recent acquisition of daily fantasy sports game Swoopt also further strengthened and diversified our offering, giving us a strategic entry point into the daily fantasy sports space with a product that enjoys a clear fit with theScore’s existing user base,” said Levy.
