Montreal-based Groove, a smart iOS music player app, announced today that it has been acquired by Microsoft. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The announcement came via aMedium post, in which the Groove Music team talked about the company’s founding in 2009. “Our journey started back in the days of the iPod. While it was a thing of beauty, we still struggled to choose what to play from our beloved music collection,” the post read. “We envisioned a music player so intelligent that learns our tastes and habits in order to play the right music at the right time.”

According to MTLinTech, Groove’s founders will not be joining Microsoft, but will consult with the company during the post-acquisition process.

While current users can continue to use the app, the app is no longer available for download and will no longer receive updates. Users trying to access the Groove app are now redirected to Microsoft Groove, Microsoft’s digital streaming service.
