InteraXon raises $10 million

Toronto-based InteraXon has secured its additional funding with a $10 million Series B investment led by OMERS Ventures and also included assistance from Felicis Ventures, Horizons Ventures and Flextronics Lab IX. InteraXon was founded in 2007 and this brings the total amount raised to $22 million. As part of this transaction, Kent Thexton, managing director of OMERS Ventures, is joining InteraXon’s board of directors.

InteraXon developed a wearable called Muse, which is a sleek and flexible headband with six non-contact EEG sensors built into the loop. The device measures your brainwaves in real-time, then sends this information to your smartphone or tablet, and translates the waves into instructions that allow you to interact with the content on your device.

“We have some of the best technology investors in the world as our partners,” said Ariel Garten, CEO & founder of InteraXon. “We are looking forward to working alongside them, with their extensive knowledge base, to bring the meaningful affordances that brain sensing technology can provide to consumers in their daily life.”

As part of the round, Kent Thexton, Managing Director of OMERS Ventures is joining the board. “InteraXon is a leader in the exciting brain health field, and they continue to build on their pioneering efforts in the emerging brainwave sensing wearable device space,” said Thexton. “We believe that InteraXon, through its consumer-friendly solutions, is improving the lives of its growing customer base.”
