Tickld, a Toronto-based website that includes popular viral content, has been acquired by Gateway Media.

Gateway Media is a digital media company that already owns 14 entertainment web destinations including Cinemablend and Clip’d; as Tickld enjoys 60 million views a month, the acquisition will strengthen its portfolio.

“The Tickld team has built a powerful platform that publishes engaging and viral content, while also letting users generate and publish their own content,” said Gabe Douek, CEO of Gateway Media. “We are impressed with the passion and the engagement of the Tickld community and we look forward to building on the Tickld team’s success.”

The Tickld team, which includes 14 people, will remain in Toronto. “The entire Tickld team is incredibly excited to join the Gateway Media family,” said Tickld president Kyle Trattner. “Gateway shares our distinct vision for strengthening the Tickld community. This acquisition will allow us to super-charge the pace of improvement to the services we offer to our dedicated user base.”
