Prehos, a Quebéc City-based paramedic tech startup, has raised $7.2 million in seed funding.
The financing came from the Government of Québec’s Investissement Québec, Centre Desjardins Entreprises Lévis-Lotbinière-Bellechasse, as well as Dessercom and other private investors whose identities were not disclosed.
Prehos’ platform aims to improve the delivery of pre-hospital emergency and home care.
Investissement Québec previously provided $144,000 in financial support to Prehos in 2019 to enable the company to accelerate its international deployment. That same year, ambulance services provider Dessercom invested $1.7 million.
“We regard investing in Prehos solutions as essential for ensuring the technological development of our practices,” said Maxime Laviolette, general manager at Dessercom. “In points of service where Prehos is already used, the technology improves our ambulance operations, modernizes our practice, and saves precious time, all for the benefit of the patient.”
Launched in 2016 by co-founders Christian Chalifour and Michael Dubé, Prehos’ platform is designed to improve the delivery of pre-hospital emergency and home care. It also facilitates the management of community paramedicine, and the planning and optimization of patient transport.
Prehos said its team has spent more than 700 hours with paramedics to draw on their advice and feedback while building the platform.

Prehos’ new capital will allow the company to double its operations team, as well as to further develop and deploy its technologies.
Chalifour said the funding round also enables Prehos to, “keep ahead of fast pace of development in paramedicine field, to consolidate our presence in Ontario and Quebec, to expand our reach in the rest of Canada and to further develop overseas.”
This isn’t Chalifour’s first time leading a company. In 2011, he co-founded Nebbio, which developed mobile business solutions, websites, and web-based software. In 1994, he founded Chalifour Digital Solutions, a digital marketing agency.
