The Ontario government has announced a new business portal, Magnet Export Business Portal, which it believes will boost access to resources for exporters.

With this new digital platform, the province wants to deliver information that is targeted to the specific needs of each business and bring export programs and services onto one platform.

“Magnet is a modern solution to the modern challenge of diversification at the speed of business.”

The not-for-profit Magnet tool was co-founded by Ryerson University in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. It helps with talent matching, labour market intelligence, research, organization, and community support services. The Magnet matching technology, powered by the WhoPlusYou, will be used in the new portal to match users to opportunities.

“Nearly 70 percent of our sales now come from international trade and we are always looking for more international market share, When I think back to when we first embarked on exporting, it was extremely difficult to source information specific to our type of technology and products,” said Mauricio Meza, founder of Komodo OpenLab. “I have previously used Magnet to grow my business by finding the right talent and am very pleased to now have access to curated information tailored to my trade needs as well. After using The Magnet Export Business Portal I have found that it provides companies with the tools and customized content necessary to maximize their market potential easily.”

This web portal is a part of Ontario’s Global Trade Strategy, which aims to drive diversification for all sectors. The province hopes that the portal will increase its international trade performance over the next five years.

“Today’s global marketplace is so increasingly complex, competitive and fast-moving that it demands an innovative approach to help internationally-minded companies navigate it with confidence,” said Michael Chan, Minister of International Trade. “The Magnet Export Business Portal connects companies to critical programs and services quickly and easily. Fundamentally, Magnet is a modern solution to the modern challenge of diversification at the speed of business.”
