MobyTrip wants to make travel guidebooks obsolete

Whether it’s trying to book a flight or finding a cheap hotel for a few days, the work that goes into planning a vacation isn’t always enjoyable. To make the process of planning a vacation easier, MobyTrip, the latest pitch on The Disruptors, has developed a travel browser app that lets travelers centralize their vacation logistics and create an organized itinerary.

The app allows users to input their travel destination and vacation preferences, including where they want to stay and what activities they want to do. MobyTrip then curates an itinerary for the user by pulling in information from sources like TripAdvisor and Foursquare in order to make the research and planning process easier and more efficient. Once their itinerary is complete, users can share their trip information with friends and family.

“We looked for a solution on how to share travel plans effectively and use them.”

“We looked for a solution on how to share travel plans effectively and use them,” said Misha Plotkine, a co-founder of MobyTrip. “We use software and algorithms to automatically generate full trip itineraries so users can say goodbye to guidebooks. Our long-term goal is to become a leader in trip planning and destination research.”

The Disruptors held a special edition of the show last week, where Twitter’s founder Biz Stone told co-hosts Bruce Croxon and Amber Kanwar what he thought of the latest pitch on the show. Stone said that what MobyTrip is doing is unique, but the company can use its progress to understand how to improve the app and reach more people.

“I think it’s great for a wealthy niche audience. Some of the things I like to think about are what else is it doing for the world and it does sound like there is some technology in there that can be used in other ways,” said Stone. “Ideally…they’ll take a look at how people are using this service and how better to expand that service to be more of value to people who don’t have the money laying around to take a trip to Paris.”
