The Ontario government is dedicating $5.47 million in 12 projects through its Health Technologies Fund through 2018, which supports partnerships between publicly funded health service providers, patients, academia, and industry.
Through the fund, the Office of the Chief Health Innovation Strategist identifies health priorities that groups can work on. The focus is on encouraging more integrated care between the home and health institution, and many of the projects leverage technology to improve outcomes.
Toronto-based MedChart, a platform that allows patients to aggregate their medical records from health care providers across the country, is part of the CAREchart@home project with partners like the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Sunnybrook Hospital, and Bayshore Healthcare. The project will allow patients at five partner hospitals to control sharing their data using after-hours cancer care telemedicine by Bayshore Homecare. This project received $497,620.
Eve Medical, which develops a self-sampling device and mailer box that allows women to collect their own samples to test for HPV and cervical cancer, is participating in a project that received $469,001 with Women’s College Hospital, Aboriginal Health Access Centre, and Mount Sinai Hospital. The project will allow women to collect their own samples, see results online through a secure portal within a week, and follow up with a health professional.
NexJ Health, Homecare Intelligence, and m-Health Solutions are also among the companies participating. A full list of the projects is available here.
