MaRS FinTech panel to discuss future of lending on November 23

FinTech is one of the most exciting sectors to watch in the Canadian startup ecosystem. But as Borrowell CEO Andrew Graham told BetaKit, financial services in Canada have lagged behind the rest of the world.

November 23, MaRS is hosting #P2P Lending: The Future of Lending Now, a panel where startup CEOs and FinTech industry leaders will talk about what the future of FinTech looks like in our fair nation.

“We have seen a significant increase in the amount of alternative finance startups setting up shop in Toronto,” said Adam Nanjee, head of the FinTech cluster at MaRS. “These companies are providing faster access to capital with competitive rates verses typical financial institutions.”

The panelists include both bank execs — like Charaka Kithulegoda, CIO of Tangerine — and startup execs like Kevin Sandhu, CEO of Grouplend.

“Startups can provide the technical platform on all types of technologies including mobile phones and tablets that provide faster access to capital,” said Nanjee. “This is not to say the banks aren’t able to build similar technology, startups do however work at a rapid pace in terms of technology development.”
