Coding Academy Lighthouse Labs has partnered with Kids Code Jeunesse and Computer Using Educators of BC (CUEBC) to host its first Code Class on October 22, with the goal of K-12 educators start thinking about bringing code into their classrooms.

When coding was recently introduced to BC’s Applied Skills, Design, and Technologies (ADST) curriculum in K-12 classrooms, organizers of the Code Class felt a greater need to give teachers the tools and resources to learn more about coding.

The coding classes will help nearly 200 teachers from across BC and Ontario gain a better understanding of computational thinking, technology, and basic code that they can bring into their classrooms. Software developers from some of Toronto’s tech companies will be offering mentorship throughout the one-day workshop.

“Lighthouse labs is proud to support teachers across Canada,” said Jeremy Shaki, co-founder of Lighthouse Labs. “We believe that great education starts with great, passionate teachers and grows from there. It’s our job to reduce the intimidation and barriers and make this fun, easy, and relatable.”
