Toronto-based FreshBooks announced today that it has been named one of Canada’s great places to work. The cloud accounting startup has received the Best Workplaces in Canada award from the Great Place to Work Institute Canada, which assesses companies based upon their culture, values, and practices. This is the second national employer award FreshBooks has received this year.
“Being named one of 2015’s Best Workplaces in Canada is particularly special for us since it’s based on employee feedback,” said FreshBooks CEO and co-founder, Mike McDerment, in a statement to BetaKit. “Since day one, we’ve made it a priority to hire people who share our values. Knowing that our team is inspired to be here and excited to work alongside one another lets us know we’re headed in the right direction. As a founder, I couldn’t be more proud.”
The Great Place to Work Institute Canada splits its evaluation between internal and external review, with two-thirds of a company’s final score coming from anonymous employee surveys. As part of the announcement, FreshBooks attributed its positive office culture to a collection of nine core hiring and workplace values: passion, ownership, results, change, honesty, empathy, strive, and trust.
