The Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) has named Toronto-based ecobee as the CIX 2018 Innovator of the Year.

ecobee has developed a smart thermostat, which includes built-in Amazon Alexa voice command functionalities coupled with Apple HomeKit compatibility. This year, ecobee announced two funding rounds, including an $80 million Series C led by Energy Impact Ventures in March, and a $47 million round led by Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), AGL Energy, and Business Development Bank of Canada last month. The company said it plans to use its funding to expand its suite of smart home products.

CIX said Stuart Lombard, the president and CEO of ecobee, will accept the award on behalf of ecobee and share insights as a keynote speaker at the CIX conference taking place on October 22 in Toronto.

Past recipients of the award have included Real Matters, Shopify, Wattpad, and Desire2Learn.
