While entrepreneurs are frequently invited to pitch competitions focused on sectors like artificial intelligence, FinTech, and cleantech, they don’t always have the chance to pitch business ideas for the cannabis industry.
To fill this gap, Lift, which aims to make buying and consuming medical marijuana easier for Canadians, announced that it is hosting Lift Pitch, a weed-focused startup pitch competition, at its Toronto Lift Cannabis Business Conference and Expo.
The competition, taking place on May 26 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, will award the winner over $20,000 in prizes and services, which include $10,000 in advertising; a booth at the 2018 Lift Cannabis Conference and Expo; $5,000 in legal services from Bennett Jones; free onboarding consultation from Stoic Advisory; and investments from the competition’s judges.
The competition’s judges include Dragons’ Den’s W. Brett Wilson; Tweed founder Chuck Rifici; Aaron Salz, a financial analyst in Canada’s cannabis industry; and Hugo Alves, a lawyer in Canada’s medical marijuana space.
Lift said that to qualify for the competition, businesses must address the cannabis industry. Each company will have 10 minutes to present their idea, followed by a five minute Q&A with the judges.
Interested applicants can apply here by May 7 and those interested in attending the full conference from May 26 to May 28 can buy tickets here.
