DigiBC Says These 25 Businesses are British Columbia’s Most Innovative Technology Companies

DigiBC, the non-profit Industry Association for Digital Media and Wireless companies in BC, has named its Top 25 Innovative Technology Companies, which will all be showcased at its flagship event. The event is called “NextBC” and DigiBC said in a release that it’s “the first ever event that showcases technology innovation in our province.”

25 Technology companies in any of the information or communication technology, digital media, wireless, film, television, life sciences or clean technology sectors will be honoured at the TELUS, WorldofScience, May 15 at 6 PM. Tickets cost $25 for members of DigiBC and $50 for non-members.

“There are awards shows recognizing past, current and great technologies; but we want to identify who is paving innovation for the future in BC,” said DigiBC president Howard Donaldson. “Our own backyard is a hot bed for innovation. Digital Media companies alone in BC account for over 900 companies, employing 14,000 people. With numbers like that you can only imagine the innovation we have in BC that you haven’t seen yet.”

Here’s the companies being honoured:

1. Avigilon
Avilgilon is defining the future of protection through innovative high-definition surveillance solutions.

2. Build Direct
Build Direct is an online supplier of home improvement products that is reinventing and redefining how consumers can receive the best prices for their home or renovation needs without sacrificing quality.

3. CapTherm Systems
CapTherm specializes in the development and commercialization of proprietary next-generation high-power electronics cooling technologies.

4. CineCoup Film Accelerator
The CineCoup Film accelerator is a disruptive model for indie filmmakers to develop, market and finance their feature films.

5. Cognilab Technologies
An all-in-one platform for social science research, allowing creation of anything from surveys to randomized clinical trials in minutes.

6. Conquer Mobile
A specialist in enterprise mobile app development, specializing in mobile security, Bluetooth LE cross platform C++ development and 3D visualization.

7. D-Wave Systems
The first commercial quantum computing company, recognized as the leader in development, fabrication and integration of superconducting quantum computers.

8. Electronic Arts Canada
A leading global interactive entertainment software company that develops, publishes, and distributes interactive software worldwide.

9. EchoSec
EchoSec is the next generation of the Search that connects you with trillions of pictures and posts made by billions of people, which never normally make it to common search engines.

10. Elix Wireless

General Fusion’s goal is to transform the world’s energy supply by developing the fastest, most practical and lowest cost path to commercial fusion power.

14. HootSuite
A social media platform that revolutionizes the way the world communicates.

15. IoT Design Shop
An Internet of Things strategy with a prime focus on developing product ecosystems based on location.

16. Medeo
A Canada-based virtual care platform that lets people see healthcare practitioners online, allowing them to connect quickly and securely from home, the office, or a quiet space with high-speed internet connectivity.

17. MTT Innovation
MTT Innovation is developing a disruptive technology for ultra-bright laser projection that is an enabler for High Dynamic Range projection.

18. Payfirma
Payfirma helps you accept credit card and debit card payments online, in your store and on your smartphone or tablet under a single merchant account.

19. PayWith
PayWith allows you to accept mobile payments, helps you acquire new customers and lets you reward your loyal customers.

20. PHEMI Health Systems
PHEMI’s mission is to unlock patient data for clinicians, administrators and researchers with a data collection and Big Data platform that eliminates the clinical-research divide.

PlentyOfFish is the world’s largest online dating site.

22. Recon Instruments
The World leader in Heads-up Display technology for sports and outdoor environments.

23. Trulioo
Identity verification products built on the concept of social verification, using a ‘Wisdom of Crowds’ methodology to confirm identity.

24. Urthecast
A Vancouver-based technology company that is developing the world’s first Ultra HD video feed of Earth, streamed from space in full colour.

25. Vision Critical
A cloud-based customer intelligence platform that helps companies build engaged, secure communities of customers they can use continuously, across the enterprise, for ongoing, real-time feedback and insight.

NextBC showcases the most innovative, game-changing technology produced by BC companies shaping our future and changing the way we do business. Bringing together industry peers, leaders, media and supporters, this event honours the visionaries that are leading BC’s tech community into the future.

Vancouver startup Quick Mobile, a mobile events company, will provide the event’s app. It will show company showcase information and profiles, sponsorship banners and the attendee choice awards. 

Electronic Arts, BCIC, FCV, Fasken Martineau, Public Works and Government Services of Canada, Microsoft, Alacrity Foundation, UBC-ICICS, Go2 Productions, and HootSuite have all sponsored what should be a fun night celebrating entrepreneurship and digital media in the west coast.
