ChefHero raises $12.6 million to build wholesale marketplace for independent restaurants


Toronto-based ChefHero, which allows restaurant owners and their staff to order wholesale food and supplies, has raised $12.6 million in Series A funding.

Since its launch in 2017, ChefHero has grown to 60 employees.

The funding was led by, with participation from Golden Venture Partners, Precursor Ventures, and Math Ventures. ChefHero said that it plans to use the funding to invest in its growth and expand to cities across North America. Since its launch in 2017, the company has grown to 60 employees.

“Restaurateurs have long been relegated to ordering supplies through late-night voicemails and manually comparing pricing,” said Ameet Shah, partner at Golden Venture Partners. “ChefHero digitizes the buying and selling process on both the restaurant and supplier side to help save everyone time and money. It’s smart technology with global appeal that fills a niche in a booming industry.”

ChefHero’s differentiation from traditional food distributors comes through providing pricing from vendors all in one platform, focusing on cities with strong restaurant industries. ChefHero’s platform also allows independent retailers to order in bulk, when usually only major chains could negotiate discounts.

In Toronto, restaurants like Strange Love, Flock Rotisserie, and Paramount Fine Foods are on the platform.
