Canadian tech vibe check

Vancouver
Talking Ukraine, soonicorns, and tricky valuations in a live AMA with BetaKit readers.

In our first AMA episode of 2022, the BetaKit Podcast upped the degree of difficulty: recording live in front of our readers on Twitter Spaces. What could go wrong?

“What is your vibe right now about Canadian tech?”

Surprisingly, not much (a few misspent dollars on non-functional audio gear aside). A bunch of people turned up to provide thoughtful questions that your co-hosts (joined by BetaKit associate editor Meagan Simpson) valiantly attempted to answer – hoping to run out the podcast clock only once or twice.

This AMA episode is wide-ranging, covering the tech impact of the current Ukraine crisis, and the ongoing tech selloff’s impact on valuations. A Canadian tech ‘vibe check’ runs through VC and journalist burnout, hiring explosions and salary bumps, and if ‘return to work’ will ever actually be a thing. Somehow we were also able to discuss bootstrapping, soonicorns, and ethics in tech journalism – all in one podcast!

If you enjoyed this episode, and would like to see more live-recorded content (or perhaps just more Twitter Spaces hangs), tweet us or drop us an email. We’d love to hear from you.
