When the pandemic hit in mid-March, within days, so too did the layoffs.
“We were witnessing the rapid decline of job opportunities available in the country, and also watching companies start to lay off employees en masse.”
Since that time, many organizations have stepped up to support the newly jobless. BetaKit is one of them: we teamed up with Jobbio and TalentMinded on BounceBack, to help provide those laid off with coaching and support while they wait for their next role.
BounceBack is an initiative that originated in the UK and we were happy to help bring it to Canada. Other initiatives, like the Help List, were more homegrown.
Today we speak with Marianne Bulger, founder and CEO of Prospect, and one of the organizers behind the Help List, which started as a google sheet but has grown into something more: a realtime database tracking COVID-19’s impact on Canadian tech talent.
