Alberta Women Entrepreneurs celebrating province’s business leaders with awards ceremony

On May 18, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging women to build and grow businesses, will host its annual Celebration of Achievement awards.

Founded in 2012, AWE recognizes women entrepreneurs who have built a business in Alberta with a significant economic and community impact. Last year, AWE expanded its awards program to recognize more women entrepreneurs with the addition of three categories: AWE Upsurge Award, AWE Emerging Entrepreneur Award, and AWE Emerging Innovator Award.

This year’s recipient of the Celebration of Achievement Award is Jeanette DeBruin, co-founder of AltaPro Electric, a company that specializes in electrical design management. AWE said DeBruin was instrumental in growing her company to 118 people and completing over 1,000 projects, including 15 schools in Alberta.

“Each year we have the pleasure of recognizing an outstanding female entrepreneur who is an inspiration to those around her,” said Marcela Mandeville, CEO of AWE. “Jeanette stood out as a true leader based on her mentorship role within the business, and her work with various community organizations.”

AWE’s award ceremony will take place at the Oasis Centre in Edmonton.
