CanCon Podcast Ep. 65: Lessons from Tilt’s “VC-funded learning experience”

“So, I’ve heard you’ve been breaking some of our rules,” is reportedly what Apple CEO Tim Cook said to Uber CEO Travis Kalanick during a meeting in 2015. It had come to the attention of Apple that Uber had been breaking Apple’s privacy rules by tracking iPhones even after the removal of the Uber app, in the supposed quest of fraud detection. However, two years later the app can still be found in the Apple store, which has the CanCon team wondering what Uber act will be enough to warrant more than a slap on the wrist.

In February of this year, Airbnb purchased Tilt for a meager $12 million only a short time after Tilt’s previous valuation of nearly $375 million. This week, Fast Company sat down with former Tilt CEO, James Beshara, to try to get to the bottom of what went wrong. After reading Fast Company’s head-scratching synopsis, the team has a few ideas.
