Goodfood, a Montreal-based dinner subscription service, has raised $1.1 million in funding in a round led by edo Capital, a VC firm which invests in sustainable food businesses

Goodfood uses an in-house culinary team to create menus, and allows its users to make preferences according to dietary restrictions. Selections are then delivered weekly for free, and its refrigerated packages contain instructions on how to cook the meals fresh at home. Meals can be prepared in about 30 minutes.

“Sharing food is at the core of our business. We believe that every child should have access to nutritious and tasty meals, which is why we’re partnering with local schools and charities,” said Jonathan Ferrari, CEO of Goodfood.

The company also pledged to help serve food to a child in need — for every box purchased, Goodfood will donate a meal to a child at a school in a community the company serves. An estimated 75,000 meals are expected to be delivered in 2016.

“Goodfood is a great business and team of entrepreneurs solving the rising consumer demand for healthy and sustainable meal options,” said Hamnett Hill from edō Capital.

In the past year of its operation, Goodfood has grown to 50 employees and served over 150,000 meals in Ontario and Quebec.
