OMERS Ventures’ Bram Sugarman leaves to join Shopify

According to Bloomberg Business, OMERS Ventures’ Bram Sugarman has left the firm to help Shopify hunt for acquisitions.

Sugarman joined Shopify about two weeks ago to head corporate development and strategic partnerships. He leaves his position as senior associate of the investment team at OMERS Ventures, where he was responsible for researching and facilitating investment in technology, media and telecommunications.

Since going public in May, Shopify has made great strides in establishing itself as a major player in the retail space, so it isn’t surprising that Sugarman would join the Ottawa-based company to help them make strategic acquisitions as they continue to grow. In its first quarter as a public company, Shopify’s revenue hit $44.9 million USD. It is also partnering with Twitter to integrate their software into Twitter’s new ‘Buy’ button.
