TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) has announced its top 50 performing companies, part of its annual 2019 TSX Venture 50 event.

“We are exceptionally proud…[of] the role these companies play in fueling Canada’s economic success.”
– Brady Fletcher head of TSXV

The annual event showcases top companies from five industry sectors: clean technology and life sciences, diversified industries, energy, mining, and technology. The winners were chosen based on three equally weighted criteria, market capitalization growth, share price appreciation, and trading volume for the year-end.

For the technology sector, Kraken Robotics topped the list. The Newfoundland-based startup specializes in marine technology and develops sensors for unmanned underwater vehicles.

In second for the tech sector, is Toronto-based Patriot One Technologies, a company that develops systems to detect concealed weapons. Last year, Patriot One Technologies acquired video threat recognition software company EhEye.

Drone Delivery Canada took third place. The company is based out of Toronto, and focuses on designing and building drone delivery systems for the Canadian geography. Earlier this week the company revealed a new drone, the Condor, which is capable of carrying weights up to 180kg and travel distances up to 150km with a full load of cargo.

Other winners in the technology sector include:

  • OneSoft Solutions: SaaS provider
  • Sangoma Technologies Corporation: providing unified communications as a service
  • POET Technologies: developing opto-electronic solutions for the sensing, data communications, and telecommunications markets
  • Integrity Gaming: provding gaming equipment to casinos and gaming venues
  • TrackX Holdings: an enterprise asset management company
  • Universal mCloud: offering asset management solutions using data
  • RenoWorks Software: providing solutions for home remodeling

The top performing company across all sectors is Aleafia Health, a medical cannabis company specializing in delivering cannabis health products and services. Aleafia also took first place in the clean technology and life sciences sector.

Overall, the top 50 companies reported adding more than 2,200 new employees in 2018 with an average hiring growth of 307 percent.

“We are exceptionally proud, not only of the strong year-over-year performance of this year’s TSX Venture 50 companies, but also of the contribution these companies make to advancing industries around the world and ultimately, the role they play in fueling Canada’s economic success,” Brady Fletcher the managing director and head of TSXV said.

TSX Venture Exchange will be hosting the 2019 Venture 50 to celebrate the companies at a market opening ceremony tomorrow at 9:30 am EST.
