Several levels of the Canadian government are collaborating on a Canadian startup delegation to Web Summit in November.

Ahead of Toronto hosting the next Collision conference in 2019, the federal government, along with a number of provincial and municipal governments, are working to promote the opportunity at Web Summit in Lisbon on November 5 to 8. Each year, Web Summit attracts 70,000 people, including 2,500 VCs and angels. Past speakers have included Recode’s Kara Swisher and Booking.com’s Gillian Tans.

“One of our meetings at Web Summit led to a $3.1 million investment from a top European VC,” said Roy Pereira, founder of Zoom.ai. “This, coupled with the incredible connections we formed through invaluable face-to-face time with executives, founders and exhibitors made attending Web Summit a hugely strategic experience for our company.”

Canadian startups registering with the Canadian delegation can receive up to 20 percent off Web Summit tickets, or a free ticket to Collision in 2019 if registering at full price. They can also access flight discounts of at least 15 percent when booking through Air Canada.

The delegation will also include specific programming for participants. Startups can take part in the Canada Day Summit to learn how to leverage Web Summit for making connections, and attend the Invest in Canada Reception.
