Therapia wants to make physiotherapy more accessible with its on-demand app

Therapia, one of the latest pitches on The Disruptors, wants to help people get access to physiotherapy in an environment they’re comfortable in.

The app, which is currently only available in the Greater Toronto Area, allows patients to search for physiotherapists in their area who can make a house visit, saving the patient time and money.

Adam Brown, a co-founder of Therapia, said the physiotherapists will teach patients what they need to be doing, in the environment that they need to do it in. “This is often a barrier for patients; they’ll learn a program in a clinic and they’ll have difficulty translating that into the home,” said Brown.

Brown said they believe the future of healthcare is in the home, and that they’re using technology to get rid of any barriers to that goal for both physiotherapists and patients. To drive this vision, the startup recently raised a $750,000 seed round.

Co-hosts Bruce Croxon and Amber Kanwar agreed that there seem to be a lot of apps which tackle at-home healthcare.

Kanwar pointed out that there are different apps for chiropractic services and home care for both children and adults. “They’re attacking different niches within health services. I’m waiting for the company that sews all of those guys up in one healthcare on-demand app,” said Kanwar.
