OpenText acquires California-based filesharing company Hightail

California-based Hightail, which develops a solution for sharing large files and team collaboration, has been acquired by OpenText.

Hightail, which was formerly known as YouSendIt, currently boasts 5.5 million enterprise and individual customers.

“The acquisition of Hightail underscores our commitment to delivering differentiated content solutions in the cloud that enable marketers and creative professionals to share, produce, and securely collaborate on digital content,” said Mark J. Barrenechea, CEO and CTO of OpenText. “We are pleased to welcome Hightail customers and employees to OpenText today.”

Hightail will be integrated into OpenText’s Content Suite, Documentum, Core, and Media Management, with the goal of letting OpenText customers collaborate more seamlessly with vendors and partners.

OpenText’s services span across enterprise information management solutions, and the company has been acquiring other services to dominate this space. In 2016, OpenText spent $1.6 billion on Dell’s enterprise content division, Documentum, once a direct competitor of OpenText’s solution. The following year, OpenText acquired California-based Guidance Software for $300 million; the company provides software solutions for digital investigations and forensic security.

That year the company also launched Magellan, an AI assistant that helps business analysts acquire, merge, manage, and analyze big data and big content.
