A former BlackBerry executive has fled to the startup world as Lindsay Gibson becomes the chief operations officer of the Waterloo-based TextNow.
TextNow offers affordable wireless plans through their cloud-based technology, and recently opened up an office in San Francisco.
At BlackBerry, Gibson served as the vice president of Manufacturing and Supply Chain where she supervised both internal and external operations. Gibson said she’s looking forward to making the shift to a more entrepreneurial venture.
“Having spent my entire career working for a global corporate company, I’m attracted to beginning this new path working for an entrepreneurial venture like TextNow whose primary goal is to provide the most affordable and user friendly wireless service to its users,” said Gibson in a statement sent to MobileSyrup.
This announcement comes just weeks after TextNow’s expansion into the U.S., which included opening an office in San Francisco. At the time of the expansion, the company confirmed two million new users joining the service every month, as well as 500 million messages and 81 calls being made each month.
“With TextNow’s recent growth trajectory and corporate expansion, we need to continue to build a very strong team to support every aspect of our business. Lindsay’s stellar accomplishments at BlackBerry make her the perfect candidate to help us focus on both the TextNow customer experience and corporate growth as we continue to expand,” said TextNow CEO and co-founder Derek Ting in a statement.
Upon joining the company, Gibson is to take over its operations, including the entire customer experience. She will also be responsible for business strategy, customer care, fulfillment, billing and IT.
